Travelling in Chiangmai

Rod-daeng or Songthaew

Rod-daeng is like a converted red pickup truck, with two rows of seats, this transportation is the most popular service for locals and tourists in Chiangmai. It is very easy to find. You can just wave one down in the street, and tell the driver where you want to go as long as you don’t mind sharing your ride with others. ou can get to just about anywhere in the city for 30 THB per persons.

Tuk-Tuk

To take a Tuk Tuk will most likely be more expensive than a Rod-daeng, since it’s a private service. You can get around town for about 100-200 THB and it can get more expensive for a longer distance.

RTC Chiangmai City Bus

The bus starts its round at 6.00 am to 11.30 pm, depending on a route. You can check the arrival of the bus in real time via mobile application CM Transit by RTC. It is priced at 20 THB for a ride regardless the distance.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Located in Tambon Suthep, Amphoe Mueang, Chiang Mai Province Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is the most important temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in the early 19th Buddhist century, the beauty of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is marked by seven-headed serpent statues that line the stairs to the temple where a Chiang Saen style golden pagoda and all its exquisite Lanna architecture is situated. Doi Suthep Hill is 14 kilometers away from the center of Chiang Mai. Two ways to get to Phra That Doi Suthep Temple
- Walking up the seven-headed serpent stairs. It is also a great spot to take pictures.
- Taking an electric tram, which is available from 6.00 am – 6.00 pm.

Wat Phra Sing

Located on Sam Lan Road, Wat Phra Sing’s Wihan Lai Kham is home to Phra Phutthasihing, Chiang Mai’s most sacred, Chiang sean-style Buddha image. During the Songkran festival, every April 13-15, Phra Phutthasihing is carried in a parade procession around town so locals can bath the image with scented water, which brings good luck according to a traditional belief. Opening hours: 8.00 am - 5.00 pm.

Wat Suan Dok

Wat Suan Dok is a royal temple and currently has registered as one of a world heritage sites. Located on Suthep Rd., Amphoe Mueng Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai Province. Local activities include Traditional philanthropy Slakpat and Listen to sermon.

Chiangmai Zoo

Chiang Mai Night Safari

Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden

Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden (QSBG) was the first international standard botanical garden established in Thailand. Situated on the foothills of the mist-shrouded Doi Suthep-Pui mountains of Chiang Mai, Thailand, QSBG offers a mix of natural beauty along with curated gardens and glasshouses showcasing the richness of Thai, and other flora, for visitors to explore. Moreover, QSBG is home to a great number of valuable Thai plants, with a focus on rare, endemic, and endangered species. Doi Inthanon National Park

Located in Chiang Mai Province, Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand, rising 2,565 meters above sea level. Doi Inthanon National Park has lots of amazing variation in its lush geography and forest. It is home to rainforest, mixed forest, and pine forest. The weather is cool throughout the year, especially in the cool season when there will be almost constant fog coverage all day and a stunning phenomenon of Mae Kha Ning or frost flower in the early morning. Doi Ang Khang

Ang Khang Royal Project Station also known as Doi Ang Khang (doi means hill in Thai), Ang Khang Royal Agricultural Station is the Royal Project’s, a foundation His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has founded to help raise living standard of underprivileged hilltribes. Ang Khang Royal Project covers a vast area of Ang Khang Hill that offers scenic views and nice weather all year round. November to January is the best time to visit. The villagers here make a living from agriculture and handicrafts by the support from Ang Khang Royal project.

Hmong Village

When you visit you can experience local life style and enjoy the view of mountains and hills. Also you can Doi Inthanon National Park. It is located near the city in housing project and has a souvenir shop which sells local merchandises.
